Colour at full volume, cut so the pattern never has to stretch to fit.

A print this big is usually the first thing to break when a garment is graded up. The layout is drawn once, at the sample size, and the same artwork is then pulled across a much larger panel, so the flowers land oversized and soft-edged and the crisp graphic quality that sold you the dress is gone by the time it reaches a 4XL. The ground colour fails in its own way: a saturated dye on a lightweight summer weave often means a single thin pass of colour, which sits unevenly across a wide panel and turns every seam into a darker line. And on an unstructured dress with no waist seam, the fullness is often released from a gathered band sitting at the natural waist, which puts the widest point of the fabric exactly where your body is already widest and leaves nothing but volume from there down.

The Rosetta Summer Floral Dress keeps the print at its drawn scale. The largest blooms stay around 25 to 30 centimetres across on every size, and the flat graphic shapes keep their hard edges because they are printed at that size rather than enlarged into it. The jade ground carries through the sleeves and the back at the same depth, so the dress reads as one piece of cloth rather than a body and two arms. The cut is a cocoon: the fullness is released from a yoke seam under the bust through two soft inverted pleats, so the widest part of the pattern arrives at the hip and the fabric is already there before your body needs it, then tapers gently in toward a straight hem at mid-calf.

• One consistent ground colour through body, sleeves and back: the dress reads as a single cloth rather than separate panels.
• Yoke seam under the bust, not at the natural waist: the volume starts above the middle and falls past it.

• Dolman sleeves cut in one with the body: no armhole seam to bind at the upper arm when you lift it.
• In-seam pockets inside the cocoon width: they stay flat rather than being pulled open.

Fit note

It runs wide on purpose. Take your usual size for the shape as drawn; go up one only if you want more length and a wider hem. The weave is matte and dry rather than slippery, which is what holds the cocoon volume: it will crease across the lap when you sit and the folds fall out again once you are up. Strong colour on a summer weave, so wash it cold and separately the first time. The hem sits at mid-calf with a gentle taper that is easy to walk in. Sizes M to 4XL.
