Empire dresses are usually graded up by making everything wider without making the bodice any longer, so on a fuller bust the seam ends up sitting across the middle of it. On this one the seam is placed directly underneath, and all the gathering is released from that line downwards. From there the skirt hangs free of you the whole way to the hem, so nothing is stretched across your stomach and no waistband lands on your middle.

A print with nothing to line up

The stripes are brushed and broken rather than ruled, with edges that bleed into each other. There is no repeat that has to match across a seam and no motif to blow up out of proportion when the pattern is cut for a larger size, so a 4XL is the same dress as an M rather than an enlarged version of it. The stripes run across the bodice and straight down the skirt, and the change happens exactly on the seam.
