Nichole | Summer Floral Dress

A long sleeve that stays loose the whole way down the arm.

The sleeve is where a long-sleeved dress usually fails on a fuller body. The body of the dress gets graded up size after size, but the sleeve barely moves — so you end up with a roomy dress and a sleeve that grips the upper arm, an armhole that cuts in under the arm, and a whole dress that shifts on your shoulders every time you move your arms. The end of the sleeve is the second problem: on a fuller forearm it sits snug at the wrist, so you cannot push it up when you get warm and it stays there all day. And a pale ground is the third — light summer cloth is often thin, and a cream dress that looked fine indoors turns semi-transparent the moment you step into the sun.

The Nichole Summer Floral Dress is cut wide the whole way along the arm, not just through the body. The sleeve is loose from the shoulder to its hem with no cuff or elastic anywhere along it, so it never grips and it pushes up easily. The armhole is dropped and deep, which keeps the seam off the underarm and stops the dress lifting when you reach. Below the yoke seam the two inverted box pleats release the body of the dress outwards, so it balloons past the bust and stays off the stomach and hips. The cloth is a dry, matte, fully opaque weave, and the lemon-branch print runs edge to edge in a busy layout of fruit, leaves and thin branches — which is exactly the kind of print that swallows a crease rather than showing it.

Why it works

• Sleeve cut wide from shoulder to hem, no cuff: nothing grips the upper arm or forearm, and you can push it up whenever you want.
• Dropped, deep armhole: the seam sits away from the underarm, so the dress does not lift off your shoulders when you reach.
• Yoke seam below the bust with two inverted box pleats: the fabric releases outwards from under the bust, so the dress hangs from the shoulders and never rests on the stomach.
• Dry, matte, fully opaque weave: a pale ground that stays a pale ground in bright light.
• Busy all-over branch print: the dense layout of lemons and leaves breaks up creases and fold lines instead of framing them.
• Long cocoon length with a rounded hem: the widest point sits at the hip and the hem curves back in below the calf, so the skirt hangs straight and does not swing.

Fit note

Relaxed and oversized by design — take your usual size and let it be big. It falls long, somewhere between mid-calf and ankle depending on your height, so if you are shorter it reads closer to ankle length. The sleeve is deliberately loose, so pushing it to the elbow is part of how it is meant to be worn on a warm day. The weave creases softly and softens with wear; the print hides most of it.
