Instead of a stiff seam that lands wherever the pattern says it should, Isabelle has a wide shirred band that stretches across the middle and settles where your waist actually is. Above it, the wrap V is cut deep and crossed over, so it opens the neckline without the pulling that a fitted bodice gives across a full bust. Below it, the trousers fall wide and straight from the hip, skimming the thighs rather than tracing them. The sleeves are loose to the elbow — no seam biting into the upper arm.

Isabelle is a relaxed, flowing fit rather than a fitted one, and the shirred waist covers a range — if you're between sizes, take the smaller one, as the band stretches. The trousers are cut long for a wide-leg drape; if you're under about 5'4", they'll want taking up, or they work well with a low heel.
