The basic tee that stays where you put it.

A plain T-shirt should be the easy one, and it almost never is. The first thing that goes wrong is length. Brands grade a tee up by adding width and almost no body length, so on a longer torso the hem lands higher with every size up — you reach for a top shelf or sit down at a table and the hem walks up over your stomach and stays there. The second is the shape of that hem. A straight, square hem meets the widest part of your hip head on: it catches there instead of falling past it, so the side seams drag and the front rides higher than the back all day. The third is the sleeve. A short tee sleeve ends right at the fullest part of the upper arm, which is exactly where its opening is tightest — so it grips, leaves a line, and creeps up towards your shoulder every time you move your arm.

Calvera is cut around those three things. The hem is a curved shirttail rather than a straight edge: it is cut longer at the side seams and across the back and rises only slightly at the centre front, so instead of catching on the widest point of the hip it falls past it and settles. Because that curve adds length exactly where a straight hem runs out, the tee stays put over the stomach when you reach or sit rather than travelling upward. The sleeve is three-quarter and finishes at the elbow — past the fullest part of the upper arm, on the narrower part of the forearm — so the opening rests instead of gripping, and there is no cuff band to bite. The shoulder seam is dropped slightly onto the arm, which keeps it from pulling across broad shoulders when you reach forward, and the round neckline is finished with a separate ribbed band rather than a folded-over edge, so it holds its round shape instead of stretching wide. The fabric itself is soft and matte with real drape, and there is no waist seam anywhere.

Why it works

• Curved shirttail hem: cut longer at the sides and back so it falls past the widest part of the hip instead of catching on it, and stays level rather than riding higher at the front.
• Extra length through the body: the hem sits at hip level, not at the waist, so reaching up or sitting down does not turn it into a crop top.
• Three-quarter sleeve: ends at the elbow, past the fullest part of the upper arm, so the sleeve opening rests on the forearm instead of gripping the widest point.
• Dropped shoulder seam: sits slightly out on the arm, so it does not pull tight across broad shoulders when you reach forward.
• Ribbed neckband: a separate stretch band rather than a folded edge, so the neckline keeps its shape through washing instead of gaping wide.
• Soft matte fabric with drape: no sheen and enough weight to fall from the bust rather than cling to everything underneath it.

Fit note

This is a relaxed fit, not a fitted one — it skims rather than follows the body, so size for your bust and shoulders and the rest will hang easily. If you are between sizes and want it closer, take the smaller; if you want more room through the hip, take the larger. The fabric has natural give and relaxes a little with wear over the course of a day, then comes back in the wash. It is designed to be worn out over trousers, where the curved hem does its job; if you prefer some definition at the front, a loose half-tuck at the centre works with that curve rather than against it, because the longer side and back panels stay down.
