The meadow starts at the hem and grows upward, so the top can stay quiet.

A bottom-weighted print is the one that most often survives the sample size and nothing beyond it. The artwork is positioned against a fixed hem, and when the length grows for a larger size the print either stretches upward and thins out, or it stays put and leaves a band of empty ground floating above it. On a pale ground there is a second problem that has nothing to do with your size and everything to do with how the inside is finished: the seam allowances, the yoke facing and the pocket bags all sit underneath as extra layers and read through as shadow lines in bright light. And there is the familiar one. On a dress with no waist seam, if the fullness is released too low it begins under the stomach, so the cloth presses forward across the middle instead of falling past it.

The Becky Summer Floral Dress anchors its gradient to the body rather than only to the hem. The upper bodice, shoulders and sleeves stay almost plain, carrying only a few scattered buds, and the watercolour meadow builds from roughly hip level downward, growing denser as it reaches the hem. The density is set by where your body is, not by how long the panel happens to be. The fine stems run vertically through the skirt at their drawn scale, so the linework keeps its delicacy. Above that, the yoke seam sits under the bust and releases two soft inverted pleats, so the fullness starts high and the fabric falls clear of the middle on its way to the cocoon's widest point at the hip.

• Print anchored from hip level downward: the meadow density follows the body rather than the panel length, so it holds on every size.
• Plain upper bodice and sleeves: the top stays quiet and the print does its work where the cloth has the most width to show it.
• Yoke seam under the bust with released pleats: the volume begins above the stomach and falls past it.
• Cocoon cut widest at the hip: the width is drafted in rather than added at the hem.
• Dolman sleeves cut in one with the body: no armhole seam on the upper arm, and the sleeve moves without taking the dress with it.
• Fine vertical stems at their drawn scale: the linework stays delicate instead of thickening as the size grows.

Fit note

Generous through the body by design. Take your usual size for the shape as cut; size up only if you want a wider, longer hem. This is a pale ground on a light summer weave, so internal seams and pocket bags can show faintly in strong daylight, and a skin-toned slip or underwear will read better than white. The watercolour is printed rather than woven, so wash cold and inside out to keep the soft edges. It creases as a dry summer weave does and drops out between wears. Hem at mid-calf. Sizes M to 4XL.
