Alora | Floral Print V Neck Tiered Midi Dress

A neckline with nothing to come undone, and a skirt that widens in two steps instead of one.

Most loose summer dresses take their fullness from a single gathered seam, and that one seam has to do all the work: above it the dress is narrow, below it the skirt steps straight out into a bell, and the step happens at whatever height the pattern put it — which on a fuller or taller frame is rarely where you would want it. Necklines are the other thing that moves. A V held by a cord or a button has a part that can shift: the knot loosens as you reach and carry, the button sits at the one point under tension, and you spend the day checking it. And the cloth decides whether you can actually wear the thing in summer. Dresses at this weight are usually sheer enough to need a slip, which means an extra layer in warm weather — exactly what a light dress was supposed to save you from.

Alora is built differently on all three counts. The skirt takes its fullness in two tiers rather than one: the first seam sits at the hip and a second gathered tier follows lower down, so the width arrives in stages and no single seam has to carry the whole change. The neckline is a clean V finished with a narrow self-binding — no tie, no button, no opening — so there is nothing to work loose and nothing to re-adjust; the shape is stitched in rather than knotted. The cloth is a matte, textured, opaque weave that needs nothing underneath, and its lightly crinkled, slubby surface means creases and pull lines have nothing flat to show against. The print is drawn open: white and deep-blue blossom sprigs on branches across a powder-blue ground, with plenty of space showing between them, so it stays legible rather than crowded when it's printed across a wider panel.

Fit note

Loose from the shoulder down with no fastenings — it pulls on over the head, so take your usual size. This is one of the more substantial, fully opaque fabrics in the collection: matte, lightly crinkled, and comfortable on its own. It falls to the ankle, grazing the top of the foot. The sleeve's frill sits above the elbow and will sit a little higher on a fuller arm. The weave creases softly as you wear it, which is what this cloth does rather than a fault. Sizes M to 4XL.
